World of Wood Exhibition Closing
FREE EVENT!
To mark the close of this year’s World of Wood Exhibition, join us for a two-part program featuring several experts in woodworking, conservation, and furniture-making at the highest level. To start, Larry Gochenour and Joe Lehnen, leaders in Virginia’s Urban Wood Program, will share how unwanted trees are given new life through sustainable practices. To follow, Jeff Headley and Steve Hamilton will discuss their more than 40-year career crafting and restoring fine furniture for the White House and other historic landmarks.
Including live music by saxophonist Bruce Fransen and complimentary refreshments, all are welcome to join us for this exploration of the enduring beauty and impact of wood—both in preserving the past and shaping the future.

FREE EVENT! Front Royal photographer Sharon Fisher captured the vanishing people, places, and wildlife on a recent trip to Kenya. The resulting exhibit, the Heart and Soul of Kenya, is a stunning photographic journey documenting the five tribes and majestic wildlife she encountered there. Join us for a reception to meet the artist, learn more, and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

Crafted from natural materials, Dunkle’s mosaics are reflection of her belief in the power of art to evoke memories, covey social statements, and heal. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Speaker: Melody Starya Mobley
The USDA’s first black female forester, Melody Starya Mobley has made it her mission to create positive change for groups that have been historically excluded from natural spaces. Suffering years of abuse, oppression, and tokenism catapulted her into a lifetime of moral courage. After 28 years serving our public lands, followed by a decade of recovery, Melody is finally ready to share her story—now the subject of the documentary, The Dark White Forest.

Exploring African American Foodways

In this presentation, Dr. Psyche Williams-Forson will discuss her research on Black life, particularly as it relates to food and foodways. Among other topics, Williams-Forson will cover the research that guided her acclaimed work, Building Houses out of Chicken Legs: Black Women, Food, and Power.

Bruce Molsky Fiddle Workshop
Hone your skills with fiddle master, Bruce Molsky! With fiddles in hand, Molsky will guide participants through a variety of old time fiddle tunes from different regions and focus on what’s unique and compelling about each, and about the old time style in general. This two-hour class is intended for students of intermediate ability and above.
